Exploring The Possibilities Of Home Improvement Projects |

Getting information about home projects, with all the information out there, can be overwhelming. Helpful information is vital to ensuring that home improvement projects get executed with a minimum of hassle and a maximum of value. The article below has the information that you need to get started with your home improvements.

One way to get bugs not to come into your home is by sealing any openings or cracks in your house. This can be done by applying caulk around windows and to baseboards. When the caulk is dry, insects will have difficulty entering and air will have difficulty getting out.

For some fun wall stencil designs, pick a design you enjoy by either finding and printing it from the Internet or making your own. Laminate several copies of this pattern and cut them out. You can then use your stencils to create the pattern you want thanks to painter?s tape and paint.

You needn?t rely on artwork to improve the decor of your home, rather you can try installing three dimensional tile. Three dimensional tiles set in two different colors is wall art within itself.

Making sure that your gutters are clean is a great way to improve your home. Clogged gutters can cause water to remain between guttering or holes in a fascia board. Due to this trapped moisture, your wood can rot. Clean gutters are a home improvement chore that will pay for itself over an over again.

Seek out ?age-in-place? measures that you can use when you are looking to renovate. Age-in-place means you need to take into account how your house will change with your age needs over time. This ensures you can live in the home well into your golden years.

Consider putting in radiant heat tiles. These tiles give heat by using electricity and can be very breathtaking. You can do this yourself if you follow the instructions. Whether you hire someone, or do it by yourself, you can make this project an extra one. You are going to be happy that you installed these heating tiles whenever winter hits.

Wall-to-wall carpeting was common decades ago, but the carpets in these older houses are often badly deteriorated. Wood is a classic flooring material that will last for decades and requires minimal maintenance.

Whenever you renovate your home, use granite tiles instead of granite slabs. A whole slab can cost in the thousands of dollars. In contrast, tiles also cost a few hundred dollars on average. This will give you the look you desire without paying so much money.

Get exhaust fans for your bathroom, kitchen and laundry room. This will keep you safe by reducing your risk of mold as well as removing hazardous fumes from your home that are associated with cooking. Ventilation also lowers the amount of humidity, which prevents wall rot due to trapped condensation.

Handy items you need to have are ladders, the right belt of bag for working, a good metric ratchet set, chisels and also reliable rubber mallet. While you may not use each item every day, it certainly helps to have one when the time comes.

Cabinets without hardware are an inexpensive choice. Fortunately, you are able to get knobs, pulls for the drawers and handles at a hardware store or online. You can install designer accents, modern knobs, or vintage pulls in mere minutes.

Some simple projects at home that are easy to take on will end up saving you a lot in energy costs. Add some energy efficient light bulbs to use around 75% less energy than the common ones. If you want to save money with your water heater and not waste energy, you should install insulation in the hot water heater.

When it?s time to redo a roof, try getting tile that?s white or something that?s light colored. By using a lighter color you can reduce the amount of heat absorbed into your attic. It is possible to realize great savings on your energy bills in this way.

It?s important to find a trustworthy roofer when your roof needs repair. Make sure to do your research on a company before agreeing to work with them. You can check the BBB or do an online search for reviews from previous customers.

Don?t forget about the lighting when you fix up your bathroom. Lighting is often overlooked when it comes to bathroom remodeling, as people are focused on the fixtures. Place lights around your medicine cabinet or mirror, and make sure that it is easy to change the bulb on any ceiling lights that you install.

When deciding on an outside contractor to improve your home, go by his reputation instead of looking for someone with coupons. A contractor who has a bad reputation may offer lower prices, but he or she may use inferior materials and do poor work. Once he is finished with the job, you will find pretty quickly that you will be in need of additional repairs. As well as the money it costs you to make repairs, a badly done job can actually be dangerous. Choose a trustworthy contractor.

If you want a project that takes minimal effort and makes full impact, grab a fresh bucket of paint. Adding some new paint to a home can give it a new appearance, which doesn?t really cost you a whole lot of money or time. A fresh coat of paint is also attractive to new buyers if you think you may sell your home any time soon.

Think about your surroundings and perform improvements that are sensible. It might not make any sense to put a pool in Alaska, etc. Only renovate in a fashion that matches your climate and works for a variety of tastes and styles.

As you have read in this piece, many times home projects are made more difficult than they need to be. Using the ideas in this piece can help you get the knowledge you really require. With this accurate information, you can be appreciating your work much sooner than when given inaccurate information.

Family sues US over scientist's mysterious death

(AP) ? The sons of a Cold War scientist who plunged to his death in 1953 several days after unwittingly taking LSD in a CIA mind-control experiment sued the government Wednesday. They claimed the CIA murdered their father, Frank Olson, by pushing him from a 13th-story window of a hotel ? not, as the CIA says, that he jumped to his death.

Sons Eric and Nils Olson of Frederick, Md., sought unspecified compensatory damages in the lawsuit filed in federal court, but their lawyer, Scott D. Gilbert, said they also want to see a broad range of documents related to Olson's death and other matters that they say the CIA has withheld from them since the death.

Olson was a bioweapons expert at Fort Detrick, the Army's biological weapons research center in Maryland. Their lawsuit claims the CIA killed Olson when he developed misgivings after witnessing extreme interrogations in which they allege the CIA committed murder using biological agents Olson had developed.

The CIA had a program in the 1950s and '60s called MK-ULTRA, which involved brainwashing and administering experimental drugs like LSD to unsuspecting individuals. The project was investigated by Congress in the 1970s.

Olson consumed a drink laced with LSD by CIA agents on Nov. 19, 1953, the suit says. Later that month, after being taken to New York City purportedly for a "psychiatric" consultation, Olson plunged to his death.

At the time ? when Eric and Nils Olson were 9 and 5 years old, respectively ? the CIA said he died in an accident and did not divulge to his family that Olsen had been given LSD.

But in 1975, a commission headed by Vice President Nelson Rockefeller released a report on CIA abuses that included a reference to an Army scientist who had jumped from a New York hotel days after being slipped LSD in 1953. Family members threatened to sue, but President Gerald Ford invited the family to the White House, assuring them they would be given all the government's information. CIA Director William Colby handed over documents and the family accepted a $750,000 settlement to avert a lawsuit.

In an email, CIA spokeswoman Jennifer Youngblood said that while the agency doesn't comment on matters before U.S. courts, "CIA activities related to MK-ULTRA have been thoroughly investigated over the years, and the agency cooperated with each of those investigations." She noted that tens of thousands of pages related to the program have been released to the public.

In a statement, Eric Olson said that the CIA has not given a complete picture of what happened to his father.

"The evidence shows that our father was killed in their custody," he said. "They have lied to us ever since, withholding documents and information, and changing their story when convenient."

Travels in northeastern Brazil: Unfolding the reptile fauna of Len??is Maranhenses

ScienceDaily (Nov. 29, 2012) ? In order to be effective, a Conservation Unit must have available a list of the species that live within it. They also should have detailed information about the distribution of species among the available habitats. It would be difficult to correctly plan the conservation actions and/or monitoring programs without some minimal knowledge about the species (who are the object of those measures).

"This is why our study is so important to the park," said Dr. Miranda from Universidade Federal do Maranh?o (CCAA/UFMA), leading author of the article, published in the open access journal Zookeys.

In Len??is Maranhenses National Park 42 species of reptiles were found. Approximately 80% of them live only in restinga habitats, which comprise about 20% of the area currently protected by the park. Restingas have been strongly disturbed by the clandestine openings of paths created to transport tourists to the dunes in the park, using off-road vehicles. This problem is more severe during the rainy season when paths become muddy quickly, and new ones are continuously opening. This could be extremely harmful to those habitats because their poor soil might severely limit natural recomposition.

"We recorded endangered species in Len??is Maranhenses; particularly sea turtles located in the beach habitats. No one has any idea about the animal activity there! Are they spawning? It's very likely, but we don't have any data! It would be very important to study and monitor those species in the 70 km of beaches of the Len??is Maranhenses National Park" adds Dr. Miranda.

Another turtle species, which deserves attention in Len??is Maranhenses, is the Brazilian Slider Turtle, which has a limited geographic distribution in the coast of Maranh?o, northeastern Brazil. This turtle is used as a source of food by the extremely poor inhabitants of Len??is Maranhenses and surrounding areas.

"We believe that it would be helpful to promote awareness campaigns to help the conservation of that species, but it is equally important to provide alternatives to the people that live there. These inhabitants, for example, could be placed into the tourism business by providing training courses. They could work as tourist guides, waiters, or cooks. This would not only improve their economic capacity, but also free them of the need to use the Brazilian Slider Turtle as a food item. The efforts for conservation will only be successful with a joint effort of scientists, policymakers and society. We have to talk to one another and look for solutions together," concluded Dr. Miranda.

'Teen Mom' Farrah rips Jenelle: She's not smart

By Rebecca Macatee, E! Online

MTV

Jenelle Evans and Farrah Abraham of "Teen Mom 2" and "Teen Mom."

So dramatic! "Teen Mom's" Farrah Abraham and Jenelle Evans have a feud brewing. After Jenelle slammed her fellow MTV reality star for her plastic-surgery procedures (including her recent nose job and chin implant ), Farrah has fired back.?

More form E: Check out Farrah's brand-new face

It all started last week, when Jenelle wrote on Sulia, "Only 21 years old and went under 3 plastic surgeries already?!" -- an apparent jab at Farrah. "That's insane if you ask me!"?

(If you'll recall, Jenelle got her breasts enhanced earlier this year; she told a follower on Twitter that, "Hell no I wouldn't do any other kind of form of plastic surgery forever.")?

But Farrah hadn't forgotten about Jenelle's trip under the knife. When asked what she thought about her former friend's comments, Farrah didn't hold back.?

More from E: Jenelle engaged to Courtland Rogers?

"Oh really?! Because she got a boob job after I did!" she told Rumor Fix.?

"There are lots of teen mothers on MTV who are very not intelligent. And I'm one ('Teen Mom' cast member) who really works hard, who really educated myself and really cares about people," she said.?

More from E: Here are Farrah's modeling pics!?

"And lots of the time they call me a b---- and then act like my friend, but that's normal because I think that's what the world has become. But (the drama) is just not in my life."?

We say, to each her own!?

Global High Fructose Corn Syrup Use May Be Fueling Diabetes Increase

[caption id="attachment_10014" align="alignleft" width="275" caption="Image courtesy of iStockphoto/TheCrimsonMonkey"] [/caption]

It doesn't matter where you look: the U.S., Mexico, Malaysia or Portugal, the more high fructose corn syrup consumption, on average, the more diabetes. A new study of 43 countries in Global Public Health, published online November 27, found that adult type-2 diabetes is 20 percent higher in countries that consume large quantities of high fructose corn syrup. "The study adds to a growing body of scientific literature that indicates HFCS consumption may result in negative health consequences distinct from and more deleterious than natural sugar," Michael Goran, of the University of Southern California Department of Preventive Medicine and co-author of the new study, said in a prepared statement. Countries in which per person annual high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) consumption was less than 0.5 kg had similar BMIs, daily calorie intake and total sugar intake as did countries in which HFCS was higher. The big difference in these two groups of countries was diabetes prevalence. The link between HFCS and poor health outcomes--such as obesity or diabetes-has often been speculated, but it has been difficult to prove. The availability of the cheaper-than-sugar sweeteners starting in the U.S. in the 1970s appears to have helped boost the number of overall calories people imbibe. In the U.S. today, for example, high fructose corn syrup is in everything from sodas to ketchup. In fact, we each consume, on average, some 24.8 kilograms of this processed corn sweetener every year. With the extra calories, weight gain has quickened, leading to more obesity, one of the strongest risk factors for type-2 diabetes. HFCS may also pose a greater risk for diabetes greater than pure sugar alone. Instead of a composition evenly divided between fructose and glucose like table sugar, HFCS contains as much as 30 percent more fructose. (The exact quantities are unknown because manufacturers are not required to disclose the amount on food and beverage packages.) Glucose is metabolized quickly and used as energy or retained as fat. But fructose processing is more complex. It is broken down primarily in the liver and seems to induce less leptin production (a hormone that signals fullness to the body) and less insulin (which is why sweeteners composed primarily of fructose are sometimes recommended for people who already have diabetes). Some studies have also found fructose consumption increases the types of fats that are linked to insulin resistance, a hallmark of diabetes. These scattered findings suggest that "our metabolism has not evolved sufficiently to be able to process the fructose from high fructose corn syrup in the quantities that some people are consuming it," Stanly Ulijaszek, of the University of Oxford and study co-author, said in a prepared statement. Some illuminating international differences emerged during the course of the study. For example, the European Union imposes production quotas for HFCS for member countries. Those countries, such as Sweden, that do not use the sweetener in their own food supply can export it to countries, such as Hungary, that are willing to buy more for residents. This distribution imbalance allowed the researchers to compare countries that were similar in other respects (BMI, gross national product, etc.) but different in HFCS consumption. While the U.S. is the largest producer--and consumer--of HFCS and has been for decades (thanks in large part to farm subsidies), other countries are just beginning to experience high amounts of HFCS in the food system. Mexico, for example, long limited imports of HFCS to protect their own sugar market. In 2008, however, those barriers were removed, and for the past few years, HFCS has been flooding in from the U.S. The authors of the study argue that with the new findings, perhaps some of these policies should be revisited. Further research into the mechanisms for the possible link between HFCS consumption and diabetes risk remains to be done. But, "if HFCS is a risk factor for diabetes--one of the world's most serious chronic diseases--then we need to rewrite national dietary guidelines and review agricultural trade policies," Tim Lobstein, director of policy at the International Association for the Study of Obesity, said in a prepared statement.

Introducing: Suzi Gage

This is a series of Q&As with young and up-and-coming science, health and environmental writers and reporters. They have recently hatched in the Incubators (science writing programs at schools of journalism), have even more recently fledged (graduated), and are now making their mark as wonderful new voices explaining science to the public.

Today we introduce you to Suzi Gage (Website, Twitter).

Suzi Gage is doing her PhD research in the fields of epidemiology and addiction. She also blogs at SciLogs.com on her blog?Sifting the Evidence, which recently won the 2012 UK Science Blog Prize. But Suzi isn?t just interested in public health. She co-hosted a panel about scientific fraud at this year?s SpotOn London conference and has a keen interest in science communication.

I?m pleased that Suzi has agreed to answer a few questions today about being a scientist who blogs about her research. (Full disclosure: I am the community manager of SciLogs.com.)

Hello and welcome to The SA Incubator. Let?s? start from the very beginning: why did you decide to blog about science?

Suzi GageHi there, delighted to be here! I started writing a blog for a few reasons, but mainly because I wanted to improve my science writing. The other major factor was a worry that while focussing on the intricacies of my PhD, I might lose sight of what was happening outside of my research. A blog is a great way to remind yourself of the real world out there.

You mostly blog about fields that span your PhD such as epidemiology and addiction. Why did you opt to do a PhD in epidemiology and look at addiction?

I did my Undergraduate degree in Psychology, then a Masters in Cognitive Neuropsychology, at University College London(UCL). When I moved to Bristol I worked in the Psychology department there for a few years, and it was while there that I realised I wanted to do a PhD. A few failed applications for funding followed, and as my funding for my initial job ran out, I managed to remain in the department, working in different areas as short term contracts were advertised. This meant I got to work in a lot of different fields of Psychology. I eventually found myself working for Marcus Munaf?, in the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group. I immediately took to that area of Psychology; it was fascinating. When a PhD looking at cannabis and tobacco use in local teenagers was advertised, working in Epidemiology, I leapt at the chance, and the rest (as they say) is history! I had never done Epidemiology before, but (thankfully) I really took to the methods and techniques.

How important do you think it is for scientists, such as yourself, to communicate their research, and science in general, to the general public?

I really believe this is vitally important. Not only is most of the research undertaken in this country (UK) funded by the public, but science does not exist in a bubble. If we conduct this work, we have an obligation to explain it properly. It?s something I feel very strongly about. As I have been blogging, a number of colleagues both in and out of academia have asked whether I plan to stop research to focus on writing. NO! I see the writing as a part of my academic work. I would love to see academic journals introduce a ?lay summary? as part of the publication process.

Your blog, Sifting the Evidence, won the 2012 UK Science Blog Prize. Congratulations! Having a prize dedicated to science blogs would?ve been unthinkable a few years back. But now, science blogs are attracting the limelights more and more. What role do you think science bloggers should play in science communication?

I agree that the day of the blogger is nigh! But I?m not entirely sure we?re there yet. If it wasn?t for Ben Goldacre and Simon Singh having the idea for the award, and working with Skeptics in the Pub and the Good Thinking Society to make it happen, this prize wouldn?t exist. Blogs are still not recognised by a more official organisation. Singh and Goldacre felt bloggers have been overlooked in terms of recognition (in comparison to, for example, the authors of science books), and are actively trying to change this. Which is awesome. I think science bloggers play a huge role in communication. Quite often when science is written about in newspapers or presented on TV, there isn?t room for all the information, and a curious public want to know more, and quickly (rather than waiting for a book to be written, or a Horizon style documentary to be commissioned). Bloggers can fill this gap, as well as advising about the accuracy of either academic or journalistic reporting of findings. There are so many roles blogs can fill.

After winning such a prestigious prize, I suppose all eyes are now on you. How do you intend to take it from there, blogging-wise, then?

Oh goodness, not more pressure!! I had terrible writer?s block after I found out I had made the shortlist. The rest of that list are my blogging heroes. I wrote about three posts then deleted them! As for how I plan to carry on, since what I?ve been doing up to now has won me this prize, I?m going to try and change as little as possible and carry on as before ? writing about what interests, excites, or incenses me!

Which posts of yours do you like the most?

Ooh, I?m not sure. I like my post about Tetris and flashbacks, partly because it was my attempt to use science to deal with a really unusual event that happened to me. I am proud of my post about plain packaging of tobacco, and my post about the recently published cannabis and IQ paper.

And finally, how do you see science blogging and the science blogosphere in five years? time? In terms of their development and roles.

Hmm, this is an interesting one, and something I?ve not really thought about before. I think it?s another case of the PhD blinkers, I can?t really see beyond the next couple of years until I finish the thing! I can?t imagine life beyond it just yet! But I hope there?ll be more recognition for excellent online writing. Networks of bloggers are great for fostering debate and vibrancy in a blogging community, and that can only be a good thing. An army of robot monkeys to bring me tea while I write my posts would be nice too.

Thank you!

Economist's View: Fed Watch: Meanwhile, in Japan...

Tim Duy:

Meanwhile, in Japan..., by Tim Duy: Back in September, I wrote:

What I expect to happen is this: The Bank of Japan will be forced into outright monetization at some point; a soft default in the form of higher inflation will occur. And dramatically higher inflation, I fear. Japan has not had inflation for two decades. I suspect they will experience all that pent-up inflation in the scope of a couple of years.

Sure enough, the battle begins. Almost lost in the holiday weekend, from Reuters last week:

Japan's main opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) said on Wednesday that on its return to power it would set a 2 percent inflation target with an eye to revising the law governing the Bank of Japan so as to boost cooperation between the government and the central bank...

...In its campaign platform unveiled on Wednesday, the LDP called for bold monetary easing through cooperation between the government and the central bank on debt management, but it made no mention of Abe's calls for the BOJ to buy debt to finance infrastructure projects.

The response from the Bank of Japan was swift:

But BOJ Governor Masaaki Shirakawa dismissed many of Abe's proposals, including the possible revision of the Bank of Japan law, a step critics say is aimed at clipping the central bank's independence and forcing it to print money to finance public debt that is already double the size of Japan's economy.

"Central bank independence is a system created upon bitter lessons learned from the long economic and financial history in Japan and overseas countries," Shirakawa told a news conference....

...Shirakawa was adamant the central bank would not directly underwrite government debt because bond yields would spike and hurt the economy.

"No advanced country has adopted such a policy," he said.

Shirakawa is correct. Modern central banks may have lost some control over inflation at times, but I don't think any has engaged in outright monetization of government debt. Yet despite Shirakawa's insistence to the contrary, I still think that is exactly where Japan is headed. More central bank history in the making.

Merchants appeal $7.2 billion card-fee settlement

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A group of retailers on Tuesday appealed a court order preliminarily approving a $7.2 billion settlement between Visa Inc, Mastercard Inc and merchants over credit card fees, saying it violated their rights by preventing them from opting out of the pact.

U.S. District Judge John Gleeson in Brooklyn federal court gave the settlement his initial stamp of approval earlier this month. If the deal receives final approval, it would be the largest federal antitrust settlement in U.S. history, offering nearly 8 million merchants $7.2 billion in cash and temporary reductions in the interchange, or swipe fees, they pay to process credit and debit transactions.

Ten of the 19 stores and trade groups that brought the proposed class action have come out in opposition to the pact. Those 10 stores and trade groups - which include the National Association of Convenience Stores, the National Restaurant Association and D'Agostino Supermarkets Inc - filed notice Tuesday that they would appeal Gleeson's order to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Hundreds of merchants, including the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores Inc, also have objected to the proposed settlement, claiming it offers meaningless relief for merchants saddled with an estimated $30 billion in annual swipe fees.

In their appeal, the 10 objecting merchant plaintiffs are challenging a portion of the order that would release Visa and Mastercard from new legal claims over related interchange issues. The proposed settlement does not allow stores to opt out of these litigation releases - even while final approval is pending - and therefore it robs stores of their legal rights, said Jeff Shinder, a lawyer who represents the objecting plaintiffs.

"The proposed settlement violates the due process rights of millions of merchants by denying them the ability to opt out of the injunction, and this fundamental issue of law should be addressed now before notice goes out to merchants," Shinder said Tuesday.

Craig Wildfang, a lawyer for the merchants that support the deal, said in an e-mail: "We are confident that the Court of Appeals will sustain Judge Gleeson's decision to grant preliminary approval."

Visa could not be immediately reached for comment. A spokesman for Mastercard said the company remains confident that the deal will receive final approval.

Trish Wexler, a spokeswoman for the Electronic Payments Coalition, an industry group that represents Visa and Mastercard, called the appeal "a badly under-thrown legal ?Hail Mary' that shouldn't give anyone any concern."

A hearing on final approval is expected to be scheduled for sometime next year.

PFT: Seahawks seething over roughing call

St Louis Rams v Arizona CardinalsGetty Images

It sounds like rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley will get another shot? to start for the Cardinals, after his four-interception debut.

But as with all things Cardinals quarterbacks this year, that comes with an asterisk.

Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday that Lindley would start again if Kevin Kolb wasn?t healthy, making it reasonable to wonder if John Skelton will ever see the light of day again.

Two of Lindley?s picks were returned for touchdowns in the Cards loss to the Rams, their seventh straight after a 4-0 start.

?Yes. We stay with Ryan,? Whisenhunt said of the non-Kolb condition, via Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. Listen, let?s start this thing off by saying you can?t have those interceptions. But in the first half, I thought he did a really nice job. He moved in the pocket, was decisive, managed it, made some good throws. We had three scoring drives in the first half, 17 points and over 200 yards of offense, possession time, was good on third down. I felt that we did a lot of good things, even with the pick-six.

?And the first pick-six, that was a mistake in his read. That can happen. The one in the second half, you have to learn from those. He made a bad decision. That?s what you have to see, can he learn from that? There was nobody more upset about than him, especially after the game. He was torn up because he knows he can?t do that.?

In Arizona he can, because they?re running out of options.

Asked if Kolb might be ready to return from a rib injury this week, Whisenhunt said he wasn?t sure yet.

?I don?t know where Kevin is health-wise,? Whisenhunt said. ?He?s making progress but as far as being ready for a game, that?s something we can?t determine until we see where he is Wednesday.?

Norway's police apologize for deporting Jews to Auschwitz

By Reuters

OSLO -- Norwegian police apologized for the first time Monday for their complicity in the deportation and murder of over 700 Jews during the Nazi occupation in World War II, just months after the prime minister made a formal apology.

"Norwegian police officers participated in the arrest and deportation of Jews," police chief Odd Reidar Humlegaard said on the 70th anniversary of Norway deporting the first group of Jews to Auschwitz.

"It is fitting that I express my regret for the role police played in the arrest and deportation of these completely innocent victims," he said.

State role already acknowledged
Vidkun Quisling, Norway's leader during the Nazi occupation whose name has become a synonym for traitor, ordered the registration of Jews in 1942 and the state apparatus played a complicit role in their eventual deportation.

Norway acknowledged the state's role in 1998 and paid some $60 million to Norwegian Jews and Jewish organizations in compensation for property seized.

Germany's Merkel opens Roma Holocaust memorial in Berlin

But the move fell short of a full apology, causing further national debate and the establishment of a Holocaust research center. Current prime minister Jens Stoltenberg only made a formal apology earlier this year.

Norway's Jewish population rose to around 2,100 by 1942 from 1,700 before the war as refugees from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia fled the continent.

Authorities eventually deported 772, of whom only 34 survived. Others either stayed in hiding or fled to neighboring Sweden, which protected its Jewish population and also accepted around 8,000 Danish Jews.

Local Group Provides Support, Education and Advocacy for Prostate ...

By Myron Thompson

Celebrate, remember, fight back, hope and cure are key words for all who have been touched with the dreaded word ?cancer?. For men, the words ?You have prostate cancer? strikes fear or great concern to those given the diagnosis.? Today, such devastating news means it is time to seek a cure, fight back as a warrior, and reach out for support in the new journey awaiting.

The Tacoma Prostate Cancer Support Group provides a community of caring individuals who willingly give support and education to the recently diagnosed person and those with an on-going battle with the disease.? Information, books, and pamphlets on prostate cancer are available for free at the twice monthly meetings held in Tacoma.

?

Jack Hudspeth, support group facilitator, says that one extremely important aspect of the disease is to get tested early with a PSA test.? Hudspeth said of the PSA test, ?It?s the gold standard of prostate tests today?.? He further adds, ?While?new tests are coming, this is the best we have today?.

Hudspeth is very adamant that the simple PSA blood test saved his life as it has with countless other men.? He was diagnosed in 1997 with a rising PSA level.? Further tests revealed he had aggressive prostate cancer, and without treatment he was headed for an early demise.? He is now in his 70?s and walking laps at the 2012 Tacoma Relay for Life and participating in the annual Sound to Narrows walk.? In October this charter member of the Tacoma Prostate Cancer Support Group hiked Mt. Si to raise money for prostate cancer awareness.

Tom Kirk, CEO of the UsTOO International Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, mentioned at a recent Town Hall Meeting in Tacoma that men in their 40?s are being diagnosed prostate cancer.? Many of these men whose cancer is caught too late will lose their lives.? With early detection, most of these men would survive.? Mr. Kirk addressed the recent US Task Force Report on Prostate Cancer Screening whose recommendation is to eliminate the PSA test for most men saying it is not needed.? This same group recommended doing away with early mammograms for women.? Now the PSA test for men is under fire from the same group.

Willie Stewart, also a facilitator, is a former teacher and administrator with the Tacoma Public Schools.? He was instrumental in starting the Tacoma Prostate Cancer Support Group then known as Man To Man in 1990.? Stewart remembers vividly the day he was exercising at the YMCA when he was urged to get a new test called the PSA.? He decided to get tested which led to a diagnosis of prostate cancer.? Early detection and surgery saved his life.? As a man of African-American heritage, Stewart understands that men of his race are more prone to get prostate cancer than other races.? Stewart prides himself in attending community health fairs to get his message heard.

Bob Freeborn is a current facilitator and chairperson of the Tacoma Prostate Cancer Support Group Steering Committee.? He along with Jack Hudspeth and Willie Stewart invite noted health professionals from the greater Puget Sound Region to speak on the many aspects of prostate cancer and the resources available in the area.

The public is invited to the support group meetings held on the second Thursday and fourth Tuesday of each month.? The Thursday meeting is a round table discussion addressing the newly diagnosed and/or those whose PSA is rising.? The Tuesday meeting brings in experts to present their views and knowledge of prostate cancer and related health topics.? Meetings are held at the University Place Presbyterian Church located at 8101 27th?St. West, and start promptly at 6:00 PM. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.? The? group does not meet in December. Men and women are encouraged to attend.? There is no charge.

For further information go to?www.tpcsg.info., or call Bob Freeborn at (253) 566-1651.

The unanimous cry goes out from TPCSG members, ?Get the PSA test and become informed! It can help save your life.?

Ex-Republicans claim Fla. GOP suppressed Democratic vote

Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer has been claiming for months that state party members engineered a new law to suppress voter turnout, falsely touting voter fraud concerns to advance their mission.?Now, other former Republicans and consultants are backing Greer up, The Palm Beach Post reports.

Greer, who is under indictment and accused of funneling campaign funds from the Republican Party,?has been claiming that state Republicans supported a law (HB 1355)?which, in part, curtailed early voting?simply as a means to stymie the Democratic vote.

Staff and consultants "never came in to see me and tell me we had a (voter) fraud issue," Greer told the newspaper. "It's all a marketing ploy."

Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, GOP consultant Wayne Bertsch and one unnamed consultant now tell the newspaper that state Republicans and consultants were actively seeking ways to suppress Democratic turnout following the 2008 election.

"I know that the cutting out of the Sunday before Election Day was one of their targets only because that's a big day when the black churches organize themselves," the anonymous longtime GOP consultant told the newspaper.

State officials continue to discredit Greer as a disgruntled former Republican. Greer, in a deposition filed against the party this summer, accused leaders of working to suppress black turnout and made other damning claims.

Crist is also regarded as an enemy of the GOP following his party switch, his decision to back President Barack Obama for re-election this year, and his subsequent attacks on his former party. This past summer, Crist lambasted the Florida GOP for backing new laws that applied more restrictive voter ID requirements.

Republicans claim that Greer was not privy to the alleged meetings, that the discussions that he claimed took place never happened, and that the GOP did not seek to suppress turnout?a potentially illegal act.

?

Why would someone conduct a search for Scentsy review? Well I can tell you that it?s not a random search. People don?t sit down out of the blue and start searching for Scentsy reviews, heck at the time of this article, a very small fraction of people in the network marketing industry even know what Scentsy is.

?

What prompts someone to search for reviews on Scentsy is either one they are already in MLM or someone they know is a network marketer who is a Scentsy member and has asked them to join Scentsy in their downline.

?

You should never ever promote Scentsy directly unless you are already a 7 figure earner in the MLM industry and even then, most people making that kind of money in network marketing are really promoting themselves, what I mean, is people will join a top network marketer regardless of what company they promote and that goes for Scentsy.

?

How do we make you a top network marketer, someone that people want to work with? At this point, you probably realize that your search for Scentsy review or Scentsy leads has taken quite a turn.

Here?s the bottom line; while you may have conducted a search for Scentsy review, what you really want, is to make money in network marketing. Visit the link below and you will be empowered to build a Scentsy, you will be empowered to attract Scentsy leads and make money even if no one joins your Scentsy.

Scentsy Leads - Where To Get Free Qualified Leads For Scentsy
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joshua_Fuson]Joshua Fuson

Do I Need Leads For A Scentsy Business?

Network marketing relies heavily on your ability to generate free, high quality leads for your business every single day, and Scentsy is no different to this. If you are serious about growing a big business with Scentsy, learning the best way to do this is crucial.

Scentsy Leads For Scentsy Up And Comers - Tips To Help You Get Started
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Randy_Huffaker]Randy Huffaker

In this article we are going to talk about Scentsy leads because I have a special spot in my heart for Scentsy distributors. I have a daughter who is one of them. I have to assume that the Scentsy company is a good one because of the loyalty that my daughter extends them and because there are so many Scentsy reps, with their window logos, that I see driving around the country.

?

Although I could be talking to any network marketer, I'm going to focus on Scentsy today because I love their passion for their products.

?

Most folks out there in the network marketing world go through a paradigm shift when they first get exposed to the online opportunities that are available to them.

?

Network Marketing is the art of recruiting and moving product so you and those in your Scentsy downline can keep those Scentsy leads coming in, to grow your downlines and have more people using your product, so the cycle keeps going round and round and more and more success stories are created.

?

The problem is, using the traditional methods of building a network marketing business, those aspirations seldom turn into success stories.

?

Most people who start network marketing attempts end up giving up before the goals are reached, mostly for two reasons.

?#1. They don't understand the work in the word network.
#2. They get beat down by their warm markets.

Building a network marketing business takes work just like any other business venture. Getting Scentsy leads takes hard work rather you do it the traditional way or the online way.

Because so many of us struggle with the beating up we go through in dealing with our warm markets, many come to the knowledge of the online aproach and see it as a viable way to overcome that struggle and finally find success in the building of their individual MLM businesses.

In the warm market method, there is only so much time to talk to our friends and families. And many of them are not even interested in what we offer.

With the online method, once we put the online mechanics together, we can reach hundreds and thousands of potential prospects that are already looking for what we have to offer. What could that do for developing Scentsy leads for your business?

So, how do you put this online mechanism together?

Find a mentor who is doing it. I recommend one who's major thrust is to build their network marketing business and who gives their training for free. That way you will know they practice what they teach.

?

Look for a mentor who teaches free traffic internet methods. That will keep your over head down during your learning curve.

Decide what kind of a budget you can handle to launch and maintain your business.

You should be able to get started for about $500.00 and maintain for around $200.00 a month. As you get up and running, your income can surpass that very quickly

Follow your mentor and set up the online tools that they recommend. Be ware of upsales as you get started.

?

Put your tools together. A good mentor will have training that will make this task reasonably easy. If you get stuck, ask for help. Some one who is building a business will want to help you because it will help them grow, just like you will want to help your recruits, so you can grow.

When you get your system up and running, do the tasks that bring the leads into your system that create the growth, that makes your business expand and fulfill the goals that you do all of this for.

Remember the word work in network. Successful people are workers.

?

You have come this far in your search which indicates to me that you are the kind of person that can and will get this done and develop all the Scentsy leads you need.

?

Come join the ranks of the oh so many who failed time and again in the traditional approach and finally found their pot of gold at the end of the Online Rainbow.

I will see you at the top.

Scentsy sells a unique range of flameless scented candles. They work by replacing the flame with a low-watt bulb which melts the wax slowly, not only maximizing the scent but also meaning that no smoke or soot is produced, and the candle is also safer.

?

The candles are sold by a network of independent Distributors who build their own business sharing the Scentsy products with others. Distributors have the chance to earn a lot of money, but only if they go about their business in the right way.

?

I Hold Sales Parties, Why Do I Need Leads?

Sales parties are the standard way of selling Scentsy candles. Distributors take the opportunity to go to a customer's house (almost always close friends or family) and demonstrate the products to people in person. They will give free samples, offer discounts, hand out business cards, flyers and catalogues, distribute DVDs or CDs, and try and persuade people that they need Scentsy in their lives.

?

Using this business model is very expensive on materials and also on your time, and also means that you can only really pitch your opportunity to a small group of people every day. It also means that you are trying to sell the products to people who might not even be that interested in them. They could have just gone to the party for a bit of fun, or out of curiosity. They wont actually NEED Scentsy in their lives, and so it will be harder to make much money from them.

?

So Who Needs Scentsy Products, And How Do I Find These Customers?

Think of the benefits that Scentsy candles have. They don't have a flame so they are safe for people with children or animals in the house, and they don't produce smoke or soot so they are suitable for sensitive people with allergies, for example. What about people who have an elderly relative that they feel is too old to be bothering with match sticks and lighting candles, or what about businesses that want to discreetly hide odors from their customers? These people really NEED Scentsy, and are far more likely to invest larger sums of money in you and your business than one of your friends from work, or your next door neighbor, for example.

?

So now that you have established where your potential market is, you just need to find them before you can start exploding your business. The key to this is the internet.

?

There are certain techniques that are simple and cheap for anybody to learn, that will use the power of the internet to spread your message and get people from all over the world contacting YOU. These are your leads, and they will be highly qualified because they will have seen your opportunity online and got in touch with you specifically because they think that you can help them. Using these techniques you can be generating hundreds of great leads for your Scentsy business every single week without ever even having to leave your own home.

?

So the key to succeeding with Scentsy is having the guts to say goodbye to the sales parties, and instead embracing the future, which is the internet.

Body exercise too seems to be a common benefit to the dogs as well as to humans. Like humans dogs too can be affected with cancer.
